Join Us For Church Online This Weekend

Peace and blessings to you! We are learning more about COVD-19 and have been actively engaged with our church conference and local authorities. To that end, our Consistory has made the difficult decision to cancel public worship through the end of April.

Please know that this decision was made with much prayer and in full consideration of our congregation and community. As a welcoming and affirming faith community living radical hospitality and inclusivity, we embrace the time of fellowship and gathering. However, wisdom and grace dictate that we engage differently during this time as we work collaboratively with city and county officials to slow the spread of this novel virus.

We have chosen Zoom Video conferencing as our means of gathering online. This will give us the opportunity to see and hear one another, to offer our prayers, sing songs of praise and listen for the still speaking God. We will worship together online each Sunday, at 10:30 am.

(We’re in the central time zone for those joining from out of state).

Paramount to our decision making is our mission to always hold faith and justice in creative tension. Our faith tells us that our God is ever-present and working on our behalf. We humble ourselves in prayer for the eradication of this virus, that the transmission will be far less than anticipated and that healing comes quickly and fully. Our commitment to justice tells us that we must consider all of our congregants and all of our community. The possible negative effects of public worship in light of what we understand about the need for social distancing and the vulnerability of certain populations weighed heavily.  Had we moved forward with public worship we would have either excluded members of our community or put them at risk. Neither was acceptable. We chose what we believe to be the best option for all of our members and the best way for us to be part of the public health effort to slow transmission of this virus.

Continue to check back here for details and updates regarding worship, bible study, other activities, and meetings as well as ways that you may help us serve our community’s needs during this time.

And remember, “Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

ABOUT US

WHO IS BETHEL CHURCH UCC?

Well, we are vintage and we are brand spanking new.  We are hippies and hip hop. We are traditional and contemporary. We are justice seekers and theology teachers.  We are mission focused and repairers of the breach. We are multicultural.  We love God, are disciples of Christ and open to the moves of the Holy Spirit.

Like anything that is over 100 years old, we have grown and changed, ebbed and flowed, set a course and watched that course change.  Today we are intentionally starting all over again.  We are in a new place, having sold our previous building in the Heights for 7 acres of retreat space.  In theological terms, we are being born again.  And we are imagining what it means to be the church today.

Join us as God creates a new thing.

”See, I am doing a new thing!

Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the wilderness

and streams in the wasteland. Behold Indo a new thing, do you not perceive it?”

Isaiah 43:9
